Well Now, That's Something to Write Home About

We had a pee free day.

"What??? You mean you didn't want to do more of your laundry today?"

NOPE!!

"Well, huh. I guess I have no reason to ask you to, do I?"

Thanks to the cheer leading squad.

Jennifer, If I had the answers I would have nothing to write about. . . on second thought, if I had all the answers I could possibly be rich some day.

Pee in the trash can hasn't been tried here, but I have heard of it.

You be the judge on whether anything I've tried actually works... we have two pee free days under our belt. It comes in waves. We go a couple of months of soaking everything multiple times a day to NEVER having an issue to wetting once a day for a month. It's so bazaar.

I try to remain consistent. Nothing changes much. Having a shower after wetting themselves was a rule instated 20 months ago. They also wash out their clothes. This also for the last 20 months. I recently added folding clothes because they have finally learned the skill. I do it if they are dry all day. They do it if they have an accident. Indecently, Missy doesn't usually wet. It's only when she is looking extra specially hard for negative attention.

So, trash can pee - the most logical thing I can think of is the child who does it gets to be on trash duty. Emptying trash cans and running the large one to the corner for the truck every week. They would also get to scrub cans with vinegar (not very toxic) - ALL the trash cans "because we can never be quite sure which ones have been contaminated, now can we??" At my house all the cans would be scrubbed every single day that it happens.

Mean aren't I?

Hey, but it's not my problem this way. I have no frustration. They learn to be good workers, and hopefully learn cause and effect. But there's no temptation then to say, "You naughty boy!! How could you?? All I do is smile and say, "oh, I guess you wanted a shower my man. Get it over with and put your pjs on, then you can collect all your laundry and get started."

I wanted to thank you for your comment on my blog. Amazing how much better it can make you feel when you learn it is not just your house. Feeling a little less "alone" tonight :) Thank you!

Catching up... My computer is in a healing process. Today it has a new battery and cord... we're still waiting for the keyboard (mine is messed up, it partially works, but is not even screwed in, just sitting on top loose). Anyways, I caught up and I was so glad to hear of Missy's scores improving. I am glad you got that encouragement and I think all your hard work definately made a difference. I believe that God has answers for us and when we follow what He has asked of us, even in the little things, it appears it is healing for us all. My brother is retarded, from overdose when he was 2yo (got into some pills), he has a fourth grade level education... but he is able to live on his own, with some assistance from my dad. His work ethic is strong and he does well, he just doesn't have that common sense in applying knowledge to basic situations... so that gets him into trouble from time to time, but it is usually he bought gas to go driving all day, instead of food for the coming week... That week he seems to eat at Dad's. ;p I think you are right in working with the life skills at a young age... they are hard to teach later on... my brother was never allowed to cook, and he just doesn't/ can't seem to grasp it, now... but he can run a snowmobile, drive and other similar complex tasks... things he was taught when younger... (my brother (s) was (were) adopted through foster care).

Warmly,
Melissa
