I read in the newspaper today that wildlife authorities shot a young cougar that was in a neighborhood in your area. He was 30 lbs. underweight and they feared for the safety of children, they said. Do you carry a heavy-duty size can of pepper spray with you when you hike alone or in small groups? I didn't used to, but several people who hike near our region have been followed by mountain lions, so now I pack heat! LOL! The pepper spray kind. I hope I don't have to use it, as the wind would probably blow it right back into my face!
